Primitive Skills Day

We're hosting a primitive skills day at the Manor on Saturday, April 9, from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Among the things we're going to get into:

Primitive Soapmaking - making lye soap from leaching rainwater through woodashes to finished soap.

Breadmaking from whole grains - making bread from wheatberries including making a sponge to increase gluten production and a good, light loaf.

Weed Walk - Eric will be conducting a weed walk to identify local wild plants that are edible, medicinal or otherwise useful. These have always been a big hit at our events!

Fiber Arts - Since we won't be doing Woolapalooza this year, we're going to have a lot of our fiber arts out for folks who are interested in learning more about them.

There is, as usual, no charge for this event; our main purpose is to educate people to be able to take care of themselves during these difficult times. We will have some various goodies for sale, including learn to spin kits, fiber tools, yarn, raw and processed fibers, clothing, baked goods, farm-fresh free-range eggs, lampworked jewelry, and of course, our signature soaps and candles! Hope to see you there!

Here are directions - fair warning, Mapquest, Google Maps, and most GPS systems want to place us north of the interstate - we're on the south side:
Take your best route to I-44 exit 38, and go south on Highway 97, which will loop to the right at a T-intersection as soon as you clear the overpass. Take the right, and you'll pass a couple radio towers. FR 1050 is the first farm road - hang a left - we're not the farm on the corner, but the next one in. If you get lost, just give us a call. 417-393-0015
